Hip to Be Square

by | Mar 31, 2012 | Workshops

Thursday 12th April 2012 – 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Two  hour mini Yoga Workshop dedicated to opening, softening and soothing the hip flexors. This mini-workshop aims to get the muscles flexible, soothed and gently open, allowing the blood to flow nourishingly at the centre of the body.

Our hip flexor muscles are buried deep down and there is a lot of confusion as to their location and action. Several muscles cross the front of the hip and create hip flexion, this pulls the thigh and trunk toward each other, though  the most important is the  iliopsoas.. actually composed of two muscles, the iliacus and the psoas which lie deep in the back of the abdomen.

For most of us the hip is mainly kept in a flexed position, due to sitting on a daily basis, several hours a day, this means the hip flexors will shorten and shrink, and limits our ability to fully extend (straighten) the hip.

This workshop is open to all levels of ability. Light refreshments will provided at the end of the Workhop. Please bring along your own Yoga mat and Yoga props. A fun, energising and nurturing Yoga workshop.

In Yoga, the boat pose is a great pose for strengthening the iliopsoas, can you guess what other poses help to work the hip flexors?

Namaste we look forward to seeing you there. Shantih Bahia Yoga.
