Sunday Series – 4 week Pranayama Course

This course is ideal if you are looking to understand the next stage (or layer) to your physical Yoga practice. You will be introduced to the Vedantic concept of the 5 different layers, or sheaths from the outer physical  body, to the subtle body ‘prana’, to the mind, and wisdom layter, to the bliss sheath.  This course will  focus on the second layer prana, also known as  the ‘Pranamaya Kosha’ the energy, subtle body, otherwise referred to as the layer ‘that supports and gives life’ to the physical body (Annamaya Kosha).

What will you learn?

You will learn how the subtle body and the prana (life force / energy) moves in 5 different ways, and how prana has a direct impact on our mental and physical well being. From here you will learn a different pranayama technique each week. Prana – means life force – yama means to extend (the life force) – most commonly known as ‘life extension’ or breathing techniques – ‘pranayama’ techniques can help to settle the mind and body. Building on your weekly practice, you will learn how the breath aides deeper concentration, and how a regular pranayama practice can bring clarity and ease for both body and mind.

What else will this 4 week course cover?

The philosophical side of the course will be supported by readings and references to the Heart of Yoga book, by T.K.V Desikichar. In addition to the philosophy of pranayama and practice, you will also explore the various asanas (Yoga poses) that will help support you with your pranayama techniques. Each week we will end with a short 10 to 15 minute Yoga Nidra practice (Yogic relaxation).  Light refreshments will be available at the end of each session, and include time for group discussion.

Who can attend?

This 4 week pranayama course is suitable for mixed levels of ability. Ideally you will have some grasp of the Yoga poses (6 months or longer of Yoga practice), as this will help you receive greater benefit from the pranayama techniques. Suitable for Yoga teachers, trainees and students of mixed levels of Yoga experience. Please book online here.

The fee is  £40 per 4 week course, and includes access to weekly audio recordings. Places will be limited to 10 to 15 students per course.
