Have you heard of Yoga Nidra?

Have you heard of Yoga Nidra? This guided meditation practice is designed to promote relaxation, calm the mind, and increase self-awareness. Let’s explore the eight stages of Yoga Nidra, from finding stillness to reawakening with intention.

Yoga Nidra begins by creating a serene (or safe and calm) space and setting an intention for your practice. As you settle into a comfortable position, attention is drawn to your body, allowing you to become fully aware of its sensations. Next, focus shifts to the regular pattern of your breath, aiding in the relaxation process. Guided imagery and visualisation techniques invite you to explore different scenarios, stimulating your creativity and inner world. Finally, the practice concludes with a reaffirmation of your intention (known as Sankalpa) and a gentle transition back to full awareness.

How to prepare for your practice

To make the most of your Yoga Nidra experience, all you need is comfortable clothing and a quiet, distraction-free environment. It is recommended to practice when you are slightly tired or after completing your physical yoga exercises.

Yoga Nidra induces a hypnagogic state, a delicate balance between wakefulness and sleep, in which your body rests while your mind remains open and receptive. Numerous scientific studies have shown that regular Yoga Nidra practice can significantly lower stress levels, reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality, enhance concentration, and contribute to overall well-being.
