Nottingham Yoga and Meditation World Refugee Week 2023

Event |

For Nottingham Yoga & Meditation World Refugee Week 2023, we are hosting two classes that are open to all members of the community including beginners.

  • Yoga in Sneinton Square Saturday 17 June – 1 pm to 1.45 pm
  • Yoga in Victoria Park Tuesday 20 June – 12.30 pm to 1.15 pm

We are running two outdoor events, so make sure to dress appropriately for the UK weather! Please, bring a mat, or blanket to practice. Otherwise, the practice can be done without these items as well. We will offer an accessible practice that will be open to everyone to participate. All activities will be adapted and offer clear options for each person.

World Refugee Week – Compassion

For Refugee Week’s 25th anniversary, you are invited to celebrate what compassion looks like in action. Together we can create a shared understanding of compassion to ensure we are extending it widely to all.

“Our task must be to free ourselves – by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”- Albert Einstein

Why compassion? The last few years have been challenging for all of us. We are still adjusting to new realities post-lockdown as well as responding to new crises. In the UK, dangerous anti-migration government rhetoric continues, along with inhumane conditions for asylum seekers.  Compassion links into the philosophy of Yoga and meditation, and how Yoga of Action and supporting our communities through compassion, allows us to be kinder to each other, and take care of other beings.
