Yoga for World Refugee Week 2021 – ‘We Cannot Walk Alone’
Celebrating the contributions of Refugees
Yoga for World Refugee Week 2021 – ‘We Cannot Walk Alone is this year’s theme. It resonates with the ethos of Bahia Yoga. Connecting with others, and holding each other rup. Yoga enables us to connect consciously and practically as a wider community.
World Refugee Week is a UK-wide festival focussed on arts, cultural, sports, and educational events. Refugee week is an act of welcome, and a gesture of solidarity, and a shared celebration.
‘We cannot walk alone’ is taken directly from Martin Luther King’s historic “I have a dream” speech. “They have come to realise that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom,” he said. “We cannot walk alone.” Martin Luther King may have been speaking during the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement. However, his words continue to resonate with us today. We cannot walk alone, which means we choose to walk side by side. To share networks, resources, and support each other.
