Breathe. Move. Write.  An afternoon retreat with River Wolton. Come and enjoy an afternoon retreat with River Wolton to explore meditation and writing, based on Natalie Goldberg’s writing practice method. Supported by guided meditation, gentle movement, and stretching. All are welcome. No previous writing experience is needed.

About River

River Wolton teaches meditation and creative writing and worked for many years in community arts projects. She is a former Derbyshire Poet Laureate and has studied with Natalie Goldberg in the US. She has recently published ‘Year’, a daily journal of poems written during 2020. And described by Martine Batchelor as ‘a poetic manual of meditation in action’.

River is trained as a social worker, psychotherapist, and carpenter; since 1998 she has taught creative writing in therapeutic, community, and educational settings. She has published poetry, short stories, and non-fiction. A deepening interest in the connections between psychology, embodiment, creativity, activism, and spiritual practice led her to an Insight Meditation retreat in 2000. Since then she has been a regular retreatant at Gaia House Devon and continues to be inspired by teachings in the Buddhist tradition. River is a devoted community leader and activist who works tirelessly to create safe and welcoming spaces in the LGBTIQ+ community for all members.
