Chair Yoga CPD – Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July, 2019

Chair Yoga helps teachers find new ways of teaching Yoga to different groups of people. From office workers to older people, most people can do Chair Yoga. It opens opportunities to experience Yoga to anyone who is unable to take part in a mat based class.

This two-day Yoga CPD will teach you how to use the Chair as an learning tool. It shows you how to modify postures, from standing to seated including traditional sun salutations. Enabling students to achieve a greater sense of self awareness and calmness through using a Chair, regardless of their level of ability or mobility. The two-day Chair Yoga CPD will include practice, learning new sequences and movements, from both traditional and contemporary styles of Yoga.

Topics covered:

  • Applied anatomy and alignment guidelines for chair-based Yoga
  • New approaches to sitting and standing positions with chairs
  • Floor based work and restorative sequences (with and without chairs)
  • Teaching approaches for office yoga and older people

Day 1: Feet Upwards

Exploring set sequences for mobilising the joints and muscles. From the the feet, legs, the thighs to the hips.  We explore the limitations for different population groups. How a Yoga teacher might cater to different needs. Studying the anatomy and physiology of the joints and systems involved in movement.

Day 2: Spine Upwards

Day two explores movements for the torso, spine, shoulders, arms and neck. Includes lesson plans and sequences and how to adapt them for different groups. With specific techniques to help release tensions around the upper part of the body.

Both days include an introduction to simpler quieter practices, such as meditation, relaxation, mantra and mudras. The tutors will also share their experiences of teaching Chair Yoga to the public. In addition to this two day introductory course, a follow-up course will run in Winter 2019.
